ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD
By Tom Stoppard
Directed by Ashley Mapley-Brittle
Nu Sass starts the celebration of our 15 years in DC with a return to our roots by presenting our first play with a new cast and crew.
From its first performance at the 1966 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, to our first production of it at the 2009 Capital Fringe Festival, to the opening of our 2024 season, Ros & Guil (as we lovingly call it) holds a special place in the hearts of all Nu Sass members and fans. Come relive the whimsy and wonder of our origins with a new cast of DC’s rising stars.
As we embark on the journey into our next 15 years, we encourage you to join us in celebrating where we came from. As Rosencrantz (or was it Guildenstern?) exhorts us “Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.” Welcome our new artists, or new season, and our new future as we say thank you to where we came from.
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead is Tom Stoppard's Tony award winning meta-play that pulls the titular background characters to center stage as they embark on a hapless journey through Hamlet's chaotic court. Ushered along by the players - famous for their play within a play - the unlikely leads comedically explore our deepest uncertainties about life, death, probability, possibility, and fate.

Reviews for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
“Director Ashley Mapley-Brittle has a whimsical touch and is well served by her cast.”
“From performing broad physical comedy to whispered morbid thoughts, the cast of Nu Sass’ production doesn’t hesitate to show how much fun they’re having with the material.”
“Making this absurd hodgepodge into something that not only makes sense but is fun to watch takes enormous skill. The team of Cholewczynski and Dixon are more than up to the task. Their banter sizzles, with just the right pace to turn the stream of apparent non-sequiturs into raucously funny punchlines at every turn.”
